Legally employers with five or more staff working on a site must by law have a written health and safety policy. Further all employers have a legal requirement to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees and other persons who may be affected by the activities of the employer’s business.
All our heath and safety consultants are fully qualified in their relevant fields of expertise. Therefore our all consultants meet the ‘Competent Person’ criteria test, to advise in their specialist area of expertise . Our consultants work in a range of industries. As a result, our consultants can apply that breadth of experience to adapt and find solutions to meet clients’ needs. In addition, our consultants are familiar with the latest developments and best practice. We also support clients to achieve CHAS accreditation, which is important particularly in the construction sector.
Health and Safety Health Check
Many clients initially wish to understand whether their existing practices and procedures are compliant and safe. Using our comprehensive compliance tool we can undertake this analysis. Our comprehensive tool assesses for health and safety risks and areas of legal exposure. Clients receive a comprehensive written report of the findings.
Health and Safety Monitoring
At HR First we understand the vying pressures of running a business. That’s why we’ve developed our health and safety monitoring service. The service is designed to enable and support business owners to fulfil their statutory responsibilities in a systematic, managed way. It is paced over a 12 month cycle to minimise disruption and to accommodate each client’s unique operation.
Each quarterly visit is focused on a specific outcome. This is to ensure that over the 12 month cycle all statutory obligations are satisfied. At each site visit an audit is conducted. The serves to ensure regular monitoring and follow-up of identified outstanding issues and the risk of new hazards not being identified in a timely manner is minimised. At the end of each visit a summary report is produced setting out the findings, recommendations, actions and priorities. Our bespoke audit report collates actions and provides measurable and meaningful feedback on progress. On-going support between site visits is available.
CHAS and SMAS Health and Safety Accreditation
We design safe systems of work which comply with the standards necessary to achieve CHAS and SMAS accreditation. Therefore for those clients who wish to, obtain CHAS or SMAS accreditation it is normally relatively easy as the evidence is natural output. For those clients who wish to go down the accreditation pathway we provide support with the application procedure and with the annual renewal process.
Health and Safety Training
We design and deliver health and safety training. We use a variety of media to suit the needs of the client. For example we can create training videos tailored to the client’s environment. Video is particularly useful tool as it allows for the delivery of of consistent and appropriate levels of training. Another advantage is that the training can be delivered when it is needed. This is particularly useful when addressing training for those groups of the workforce whose availability is less easy to accommodate and plan. Groups include agency workers and temporary staff.
Our Health and Safety Consultants deliver induction and health and safety awareness training and refresher training. We also deliver toolbox mini training sessions to address a specific issue.
We also ‘bring the training to you’ with delivery of various health and safety courses on the client’s premises. These sessions are tailored to the client’s environment and reduce travel time. Another advantage of the training being delivered on site is this it minimises the time and inconvenience for staff. The benefit for the employer is that the time personnel are absent from operational activities is minimised. In addition, courses can be scheduled to coincide with periods which suit the client’s business. Some of the courses offered include First Aid Training, including emergency at work (1 day), First Aid at Work (3 day) and Manual Handling Training.
Fire Risk Assessments
Our fire specialists visit clients to undertake fire risk assessments and advise on fire safety compliance. In addition, we also work with clients proactively during building works to identify the implications of any alterations from the perspective of fire containment and safe evacuation.
Accident Investigation and RIDDOR
In the event of a three day injury or accident we are able to support clients to investigate the cause and make recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence. We will work with the relevant authorities to submit the RIDDOR response to the Health and Safety Executive on behalf of the business.
Health Monitoring
Regular health screening and monitoring is a legal require, where a risk to is identified, and can not be reduced further by other means. Where this is the case we support clients to introduce and maintain a system of health monitoring working involving our occupational health expertise if required.
